Oxygenated Solvents – Esters

Esters or acetates are commonly used oxygenates which have good solvency power and characteristic odours.
Ethyl acetate and N-propyl acetate for example are used in confectionery and are instantly recognisable by their ‘pear drops’ odour and taste. Ethyl acetate is also used as a nail polish remover.

Acetates are widely used in the printing industry, cleaning products, surface coatings, personal care and pharmaceutical applications.

Examples of commonly used esters are:
Ethyl acetate
N-Propyl acetate
Isopropyl acetate
N-butyl acetate
